Team: Business Intelligence

The PBS Business Intelligence team is charged with collecting, organizing, and analyzing demographic and behavioral data to enhance personalization, viewer retention, brand loyalty, and engagement with PBS programs and digital platforms. As Director of Strategic Insights, you will join a team of researchers and data strategists to translate that behavioral data into strategic recommendations and understand how audience data contributes to station sustainability and achieving the PBS mission.
The Director provides research-based strategic direction to advise senior leadership and stakeholders across PBS. The Director is primarily responsible for analyzing and interpreting research data to inform decision making. The Director utilizes various analysis and measurement tools to provide analysis and solutions. This position will serve as a key resource for the Vice President, Business Intelligence, working on crucial projects that impact programming, multi-platform, and marketing strategies. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and operational doer with superb organization, strong project management, and impeccable communication skills.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
Define and execute strategic projects to identify and understand opportunities and influence high-level corporate strategy to support the needs of viewers and stations.
Perform data analysis using disparate sources of data to effectively inform stakeholders
Partner with Business Intelligence Leadership on select strategic projects across PBS and its member stations
Provide thought leadership on defining and measuring media impact
Develop a program to measure local station engagement efforts at scale and provide a knowledgebase of lessons learned
Write grant proposals to key funders to continue our work in impact measurement and improving system use of data
Work with the Data Strategy & Operations team to define unified measurement solutions, achieve reporting efficiency, build KPI dashboards and make use of data visualization tools
Represent PBS Business Intelligence at system and industry conferences
Foster effective relationships with internal and external partners, vendors, and stakeholders
Support organization-wide special projects; drive and manage full lifecycle of projects
Keep pace with media industry trends and developments
Mentor junior staff in multiplatform analysis techniques
Requirements for success:
At least 8 years of related research experience preferably at a television network, digital entertainment company or with an entertainment based research organization; in-depth knowledge of industry strategies
Bachelor’s degree in marketing or business; or equivalent work experience required. Ideally, education included
Passion for evaluating audience trends and providing recommendations
Demonstrated experience with linear and digital measurement tools and services including Nielsen TV ratings (N-Power), Google Analytics, comScore, Facebook Insights, YouTube Analytics and social analytics tools.
Strong analytic skills and exceptional aptitude in media math
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, must be a comfortable and experienced public speaker and storyteller
A highly motivated, superbly organized, strategic thinker who is a strong leader & team player
Must possess strong Excel and PowerPoint skills and the ability to bring research to life
Should possess a passion for television content and a curiosity to understand viewer behavior
